Housekeeping FAQ

Here are some of the most common housekeeping questions the staff at Custom Maid gets:

How many housekeepers do you send?
You can expect two or three people to clean your home. All work will be overseen by the team captain, who will review the work before the team leaves.

I work a lot. Will I have to be home for you to clean?
No. While we would enjoy meeting you, we are able to clean your home whether you’re home or not.

What if I lock you out?
Mistakes happen, and we understand this. However, your appointment was booked specifically for you, meaning business was turned away. Also, our employees depend on cleanings for their income. Therefore, you will be charged the full rate for lock outs or cancellations after 7:30 a.m.

Can I get an estimate?
Yes. We’re not interested in wasting your time if our costs don’t match your budget. The initial phone call will be followed up with a walkthrough to look at your home.

Do you perform background checks on your employees?
Custom Maid prides itself in hiring only the best caliber of housekeepers: trustworthy, professional, experienced and dependable. To make sure this is done, we perform a criminal background check and a drug test on each employee.

Virginia Beach Housekeeping: 3 Easy Ways to Clean Your House Fast

Want to get your house cleaning done fast? Expecting guests, and don’t want them to see a dirty home, but you’re running low on time? Here are five easy ways to get all the housekeeping in your Virginia Beach home done quickly.

Schedule
Hindsight is 20/20, but scheduling a day to clean your home will mean you won’t have to rush around next time. You may want to handle each room on different days; for example, handling the bathroom on Tuesdays and taking care of the master bedroom on Fridays. Plus, if you miss a room because of a scheduling conflict, you will have only missed a little bit of time instead of the whole house. If you try to handle your house cleaning in one fell swoop, you’ll just tire yourself out and nothing will get done.

Put products in one area
Many of our cleaning efforts are devoted to gathering up the necessary cleaning products. An easy way to avoid this time waster is to put all the cleaning products in one area. If you have more than one bathroom, put the same products in each. You won’t have to carry toilet brushes from room to room, and won’t suffer from cleaning burnout.

If you put the cleaning products in a place where they can be seen, you are more likely to clean on a regular basis. You will find yourself keeping your home more clean, meaning less of a housekeeping efforts.

Reduce clutter
If your home is full of belongings, it will be difficult to keep it clean. Divesting yourself of clutter is one of the best ways to ensure a fast clean. How many times have you found it difficult to vacuum because you have too much furniture, or dust because the tops of your dressers and tables are covered in trinkets? Reducing the amount of stuff you have in each room will make your house look more aesthetically pleasing and easier to clean, and will reduce stress. You’ll feel more calm and tranquil in a decluttered home.

For bathrooms and kitchens, here are three tips each to make the process go faster:

Bathrooms
  • Steam will loosen dirt, and make wiping down the tub or shower a lot easier. So, clean it after someone is done cleaning themselves.
  • Use vinegar on shower door tracks to remove any mildew and mold. Pour vinegar into the track, and let it sit for five minutes. Remove it by rinsing.
  • A sponge mop can clean shower walls in a cinch. Plus, it save you from constant stretching and bending.

Kitchens
  • Mix dishwasher detergent with a gallon hot water. This solution will greatly clean stoves, floors, fridges, glass, walls and more.
  • Make stainless steel shine by putting white vinegar on a cloth and wiping.
  • Place a coffee cup halfway filled with water, and cook on high for two minutes. The steam will loosen any baked on food.
